What the site is
explorerpatcher.dev is an independent guide to ExplorerPatcher. We write guides, publish the results of our own tests and offer small tools that run in your browser. We are not the developers of ExplorerPatcher, and we are not affiliated with VALINET Solutions SRL or Microsoft. The disclaimer explains this in more detail.
Information, not advice
Everything here is general information, checked against ExplorerPatcher 26100.9711.71.1 on 6 Nov 2026 and against the machines named on each page. Windows and ExplorerPatcher change often. A page can be out of date or wrong. Our tests do not cover every PC, every Windows build or every combination of software. You decide whether a step is right for your PC.
Your responsibility
ExplorerPatcher changes how Windows starts its desktop. Our guides describe steps such as installing it, editing settings, importing a .reg file, running a PowerShell script from our Cleanup Script Builder or renaming system files in recovery. Before you do any of them:
- back up what matters and know the recovery steps (black screen guide);
- do not use it on a work, school or other managed PC without permission;
- read each step and the warnings next to it.
You are responsible for what you run on your own devices.
Tools
Our tools are provided as they are. They produce files, scripts or advice that you check before you use. A match in the Download Verifier proves only that your file equals one that GitHub serves; it does not prove the program is safe. The Configurator’s file has not yet been tested end to end through ExplorerPatcher’s import, as its page says.
ExplorerPatcher and other software
ExplorerPatcher is free software released under the GPL-2.0 licence by its authors. Your use of it is governed by that licence and by the project’s own pages, not by these terms. We do not host or distribute it. Other programs we name belong to their owners, and so do their terms.
Links
We link to GitHub, Microsoft, antivirus vendors and other sites. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content or their policies. A link is not an endorsement.
No warranty and limits of liability
We provide the site and tools as they are, without any warranty that they are accurate, complete, current or suited to your purpose. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage that follows from using the site, the tools or the software we describe, including loss of data, a PC that does not start or lost time. Nothing here limits any right you have by law that cannot be limited.
Content
The text, tables, diagrams and tools on this site are ours, except where we say a source or a person’s work is used. Quoting a short passage with a link back to the page is welcome. If you want to reuse more, ask us through contact. Screenshots show Microsoft Windows running on our test machines; the product interfaces in them belong to their owners.
Changes to the site and to these terms
We may change or remove pages and tools at any time. We may change these terms; the date at the top says when. Corrections to content are logged on the corrections page. Your data is handled as described in the privacy policy.
